- Our HQ is the Weymouth Angling Society Clubhouse where registration, boat draw, and presentation take place.
- Day 1 results will be posted in on Pairs Facebook Page.
- The competition will take place over two days with cash prizes and an overall prize table.
- The event will be fished to a points system with pairs points being accumulated over two days, day two is a new score sheet so you can catch the same fish as the previous day. Should the scores be tied over two days then the team with the greatest number of species of fish shall win. If still tied, then the monies are shared.
- Pairs will be drawn to fish in two positions on the same boat. Teams cannot fish on the same boat on consecutive days. Teams’ boats and boat positions will be drawn at registration.
- Each pair’s team will be able to catch two of each species (each day) between them and score 1 point for the first fish and 2 points for the second fish of that species. So, if 2 of the same species are caught the team has a total of 3 points.
- All fish count, fish must be clearly identified by the skippers and team captains, if any doubt fish must be brought back alive in a bucket for clear identification.
- Pairs can interchange positions throughout the day.
- Teams are to provide their own bait, (Bait restricted to King Ragworm, Mackerel & Squid). There are no restrictions on bait additives, flavored artificial baits, or lures. (Trebles cannot be used.)
- There are no size limits, and all fish are to be returned alive unless being kept for the table or bait.
- Boats will fish within a 15-mile radius of the town bridge.
- The organizing committee has the power to abandon or limit the days angling should the weather be deemed unfit on safety grounds.
- Portland Harbour is in the fishing grounds.
- Each Team captain duties will include the following:
- Each Team is responsible for checking that the fish caught has been registered with the boat skipper; it is his/her duty to make sure the skipper acknowledges their catch every time a fish is caught. Under no circumstances can fish be added to the score sheet later.
- The Anglers from Position 1 and Position 4 will be the overall boat captains and are to ensure rules are abided to and any disputes relayed to the organizers.
- As soon as possible after fishing take a photo of the completed score sheet and send it to Charlie on 07973176247. Then one of the captains is to bring the score sheet to Weymouth Angling Centre or give it to Andy Selby immediately after unloading.
- Baitfish caught prior to the daily competition start must be shared equally amongst all teams on the boat. Baitfish caught during the competition by an angler can be kept for their team use.
- Baitfish will include crustaceans and squid/cuttlefish.
- All competitors must adhere to the assembly/departure times as stated in the program timetable, under no circumstances will a boat wait for latecomers.
- Boats will leave from their Moorings at 08.00hrs. All boats MUST return to 200m of the town bridge by 16.30hrs unless breakdown or similar causes delay. Any delay must be relayed to the commodore.
- Fishing times can be anytime between boat departure and return.
- No fishing from boat moorings or Weymouth Harbour.
- Any competitor wishing to lodge a protest, or complaint must do so in writing by 19.00hrs of that day’s fishing.
- The protest committee will be named at registration.
- Wire line is prohibited, including wire traces.
- Competitors may only have 2 rods assembled, and only one of these rods may have terminal tackle fitted at any one time.
- Foul hooked fish do count. Fish must not be deliberately foul hooked.
- Should a fish be hooked by more than one angler it’s the angler’s hook that is in the fish’s mouth that takes the score, should both hooks be in the fish’s mouth then the fish score will not count for either angler. If the fish is foul hooked by more than two anglers, then it does not count.
- Boat casting will be allowed with terminal tackle being cast from outside the boat. The angler must make all others aware when casting.
- Up to TWO hooks will be allowed on each rig.
- Should a boat move during fishing time then all anglers must retrieve their lines, under no circumstances may an angler fish when the anchor is being raised or dropped. Fishing must stop/start only on the boat skipper or boat captain’s instruction.
- Smoothounds, Sandeels/Launce, Gobies, Blennys count as one species and have their own categories.
- Larger fish over 5kg and all Congers, Rays, Tope & Hounds count as soon as the trace is touched (not the leader). All other fish must be fully boated, a fish falling off the hook back into the water does not count.
- Ensure scorecards are signed as being correct.
- Liaison with the boat skipper.
- Observing fishing start and finish times.
- Ensuring all rules obeyed.
- Assisting the skipper/crewman with the identification of fish if so required.
